Monday, Dec. 11
Notes and discussion:  intro to forces and free-body diagrams

Tuesday, Dec. 12
Notes and discussion: Newton's first and second laws of motion

Wednesday
Dec. 13
Mini-lab:  Mass and its relationship with and Object's Weight
In your journal, include the following:
  • A data table with your object's 5 trials of mass and weight
  • Your calculations of the averages and appropriate uncertainties
  • The final, complete data table, which can be found HERE
  • The final data table of calculated averages and uncertainties
  • A graph, with mass on the x-axis.  Please include error bars and linear fit, but do not worry about max/min slopes.

Thursday, Dec. 14
discuss Weight and other types of forces; equilibrium
Practice problems

Friday, Dec. 15
Mini-lab:  Forces in Equilibrium--collect data using the force table and 3 strings attached to a ring to verify the equilibrium status of the system.

Monday, Dec. 18
Go over lab and equilibrium calculations (lab is inserted into Journal)

Work on WebAssign (Forces and Newton's Laws)--try to get it done by Wednesday (there will be another one after break).  It is open until Fri. Jan. 5 for those of you gone this week and/or over break.  You are not required to work on it over break if you do not finish by Wednesday.

Tuesday, Dec. 19
Practice problems:  applications of Newton's laws  (ppt here)

Wednesday, Dec. 20
Fun Forces and Motion project :)

  Dec. 21 - Jan. 1:  Winter Break--No School

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!  See you in January!
