No Classes for IB Physics 2 on Tuesday

Wednesday,
Dec. 4
pre-lab work notes
Lab data collection: determination of the speed of sound in air

Thursday, Dec. 5
Notes and demos: standing waves and sound wave resonance

Friday, Dec. 6
Quiz: Forced vibrations, resonance, damping
When you're done with the quiz, study hall.
Work on something related to IA, start the next WA, or do something academically productive for another class.

HW:  WA--sound and standing waves: due next Friday, 12/13

Monday, Dec. 9
Warm-up/practice problem related to sound wave resonance in pipes
Notes/demos: waves in 2-dimensions

Tuesday, Dec. 10
No Classes for IB Physics 2 on Tuesday

Wednesday
Dec. 11
Lab: Ripple Tank
In class, complete the note packet of observations.  General guideline procedure packets are available for the sections involving the reflection, refraction, and diffraction of water waves.

HW note:
No quiz Friday. weekly quiz will be next Wednesday
A.S. for waves all due next Wednesday:
  • 4.2.1 - 4.2.5
  • 4.2.7 - 4.2.8
  • 4.3.1 - 4.3.7
  • 4.4.1 - 4.4.2
Reminder: you have a WebAssign on sound and resonance due this Friday, 12/13

Thursday, Dec. 12
Continue work on the Ripple tank lab

Friday, Dec. 13
Finish up ripple tank observations
Check answers using key
When done:
Work on your Internal Assessment or Assessment Statements (A.S. due Wednesday)

Monday, Dec. 16
post-lab discussion on reflection, refraction, and diffraction.
IA work time for about 15 minutes

Tuesday, Dec. 17
No Classes for IB Physics 2 on Tuesday

Wednesday, Dec. 18
Begin EM waves--general light characteristics are found in the notes posted on the Topic 4 page.  Please fill out THIS PAGE and print out for your notes.
Light Refraction--notes and mini-lab
You will be making measurements and creating a graph supporting Snell's Law in order to determine the index of refraction of a piece of glass.

HW:
Graph and analysis for the lab is due on Friday, 12/20 (you have time in class today to work on it and possibly complete all but printing the graph).
WA: Refraction of Light--due Friday, January 10 (after break)

Thursday, Dec. 19
Quiz: mechanical wave behaviors

Friday, Dec. 20
Demos on light refraction and its applications (Snell's Law, Critical Angle, Total Internal Reflection...)
Intros and demos: disperson of light, polarization of light (we'll review and take detailed notes on these after break...)

Intro polarization of light and introduce polarization "stained glass" project--individual or partner--due Friday, 1/17

And...Bonus lab project--Due Friday, 1/10
  Dec. 21 - Jan. 5:  Winter Break--No School
