February Assignments--IB Physics 1
2016-17 school year

Tuesday, Jan. 31
Notes/critical thinking questions:  Work  (notes are posted on Mechanics page)

Wednesday
Feb. 1
Notes/Practice problems:  Work-Energy theorem; kinetic energy

Thursday, Feb. 2
Kinetic energy:  practice problems; concept and critical thinking problems and discussion

Friday, Feb 3
Demo/notes/practice problems:  Hooke's Law and elastic potential energy

(some classes got as far as the conservation of energy.  If your class didn't, we'll be doing that on Monday)

HW reminders:
IB Question Packet--due next Friday  (you have enough information to be able to get started on it this weekend)
WebAssign:  Work, Energy, and Power--due next Friday (you have enough information to be able to get started on this, too)

Heads' up:  Quiz covering Work, Energy, and Power will be next Friday

Monday, Feb. 6
Snow Day!

Tuesday, Feb. 7
Snow Day #2!

Wednesday,
Feb. 8
2-journal entry day (plus the warm-up...so 3 entries)--all done individually

#1:  Lab-based entry--take the worksheet, cut in half and tape into your journal.  Collect data and complete questions as directed.

#2:  Notes-based entry--Look at/take notes on rotational kinetic energy, using the following sources:
PowerPoint Notes
HyperPhysics website
PhysLAB website

In your journal, answer the 4 questions at the end of the PhysLAB website (the ones about Einstein and his bike).

Thursday, Feb. 9

go over Rotational Kinetic Energy concepts as a class
Practice problems

HW reminder:  have your packet of IB questions mostly done by tomorrow--we'll go over a few.  The packet will be collected on Monday.
HW Reminder:  Don't forget about your WA--due Monday, but try most of the problems by tomorrow.

Friday, Feb. 10
Practice Problems:  Work, Energy, and Power

Notes/Examples:  Power and Efficiency

Monday, Feb. 13
Quiz:  Work, Energy, and Power, part 1 (short answer)
shortened periods because of assembly

Tuesday, Feb. 14
Quiz: Work, Energy, and Power, part 2 (multiple choice)

Intro to Thermal Physics :)
Notes are found on the Thermal Physics page

Warm-up in the ppt, Journal entry related to a demo.  If you were absent, please plan to come after school Wednesday (tomorrow) for the demo
