May/June Assignments--IB Physics 2
2016-17 school year

Monday, May 1
Decay processes:  Alpha, Beta (plus and minus) and gamma decay
See notes

Tuesday, May 2
Half-life activity:  Hexium into Unium--if you missed data collection, please get data from one of your classmates.  You are responsible for your own analysis (due sometime this month!)
Please graph your data and apply a natural exponential fit.  Insert and your data table and your properly labeled graph into a Word Document.  If you were not present in class due to IB testing, please also add the following under your graph:
* List of your values for your line:  A  (initial "activity"); B (background "activity"); C (Decay constant))
* Looking at the line of your graph, at what x-value does your "activity" drop to 50% of the original value?
* Look up the relationship between half-life and the decay constant.  Based on your decay constant (from your graph), what is the half-life of your "Hexium"?    How does that compare to what you visibly see on the graph?

Please submit your data table, graph, and brief analysis to www.turnitin.com no later than the end of May. :)
