What ARE they?

Syllabus Statements are the detailed objectives for each topic of study.  Our notes and reading assignments, as well as labs and other activities, will give you information for each of these.

Questions on all class exams, as well as on the IB exam in May, are based on these statements.  If you are wondering what you need to know for a unit exam, you simply need to refer to the syllabus statements outline to give you your first clue!

So what do I actually have to do with them?

First thing, at the start of every new unit, you'll need to print off the topic outline for the upcoming unit.  (Your only homework the night after we take a test is to print out the outline for the next unit)  The outlines can be found on your IB Physics main page, or on the unit page for each unit.  Put the outline in your binder for easy reference.

In summary, you will be asked to "Complete Syllabus Statements" during every unit.  That means that you will be treating each of the statements as a question.  You will be answering the statements as thoroughly as possible when assigned.

bulletDetails and Expectations:
bulletYou will be answering your syllabus statements in a bound composition book dedicated to all statements for the year.  (comp. books can be purchased for $1.50.  Pay the ASB bookkeeper (Mrs. DeKruyf) and bring your receipt to me to get your book)
bulletMake a title page on the first page of your comp. book, then number your pages.
bulletStart a new page every time we begin a new unit.  On the top of that first page for the unit, write the title of the unit and the date we begin the unit.
bulletWrite the Assessment Statement number and the FULL statement IN INK
bulletAnswer the statement as if it were a question.  Essentially, write an explanation of the statement based on the command term(s) in that statement.
bulletNOTE:  IF the statement reads: "State that...", do NOT simply re-write the statement as your answer!  You must Explain why that statement is true and/or what the statement means!!
bulletLeave a small space, then write the number and statement of the next one, and answer it.

bulletPlease be neat!!  Always use INK--you are not allowed to type your syllabus statement answers.  You must write them all out by hand.
bulletPlease CLEARLY separate each statement and its answer.  It is extremely helpful if you do one of the following:
bulletWrite statements in one color ink and answers in a different color ink
bullet Highlight the syllabus statement (with a light color highlighter, like yellow, blue, or pink), then write the answer in ink, but not highlighted.

bulletAll statements for a unit are due the day you take your unit test.  You will turn in your comp. book with all your statements at the same time you turn in any review assignment that may be given for that unit.
bulletUse the links on the IB Web Links page to help you find answers to any statements that you are having problems with.
